There are lots of different ways to progress to higher education
MOST STUDENTS who choose to embark on a higher education course will do so after successfully completing a Level 3 (NQFThe National Qualifications Framework (NQF) compares qualifications available in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.) or Level 7 (SCQFThe Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) compares the different qualifications available in Scotland.) qualification.

Mature students with aptitude or experience may not need these qualifications for entry.

It's also important to realise that higher education isn't just for traditional achievers with good A-Level or Higher results - there are many ways to get a place on a higher education course including vocational qualifications.

Foundation and access courses last one year and prepare you to join the education system as an undergraduate. (Pre-Master's courses are also available and allow you to join at postgraduate level). See our education and qualifications in the UK pages for more details.
