Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) (Formerly Philosophy, Politics & Economics Admissions Test (PPE))

STUDENTS APPLYING to the University of Oxford to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) will be required to take a pre-interview admissions test. The Thinking Skills Assessment (formerly known as the PPE Admissions Test) will be administered by Cambridge Assessment.

The University of Oxford receives approximately 1300 applications for a course that has around 250 places and the number of applications is growing annually. Admissions decisions are complex because candidates come from a wide variety of subject backgrounds, and the study of TSA requires a range of abilities, with different emphases in each of the three subject areas of philosophy, politics and economics.

The test will help admissions tutors to assess whether candidates have the skills and aptitudes that are required to study - for example, the ability to think critically, reason analytically, and use language accurately and effectively - without having to rely on any particular subject knowledge.
