The UK research councils

the UK research councils
AHRC, STFC, NERC, BBSRC, ESRC, MRC and EPSRC logos

THE MAJOR SOURCE of research support in the UK higher education sector is split between the seven research councils.

Along with the direct funding given to universities by the UK higher education funding councils and the Department for Employment and Learning, Northern Ireland (DELNI), this makes up the dual support system which both sustains the research effort and preserves and develops the research infrastructure.

These pages detail the work of the UK research councils.
