JISCmail provides mailing lists for the academic community |
ELECTRONIC discussion lists have become a major resource for connecting like-minded people within higher education in the UK and across the world.
They are an immediate, effective, and targeted way to exchange ideas and information with exactly the right people.
You join a list by sending an email. The process is free and secure, and you can unsubscribe from a list at any time. There is also an established ‘list etiquette’ to prevent misuse or irrelevant mailing.
Messages are kept short and focussed, and some organisations appoint moderators to subscribe to lists and forward relevant mailings to members of staff.
The leading discussion list service within the UK is JISCmail which replaced Mailbase in November 2000 as the home of the National Academic Mailing List Service.
JISCmail is one of a number of JANET services provided by UKERNA and funded by the JISC to benefit learning, teaching and research communities. The CCLRC currently operates and develops the JISCmail service on behalf of UKERNA.
JISCmail exists explicitly to serve the higher education community. Lists cover all topics from the heavily academic, to teaching and learning and general university administration. It has over 3,000 lists in operation and a full browse and search option to locate the lists of interest to you.
Unfortunately, the Kovacs Directory of Scholarly and Professional E-Conferences is no longer actively maintained. Its scope was international and its lists academic in focus covering all subjects and interests. |
