Business services, opportunities and facilities

HIGHER EDUCATION offers business and industry far more than highly skilled graduates, effective staff development and outstanding research opportunities.

Universities and colleges provide a whole range of business services and facilities, both big and small, which firms can take advantage of.

Key among these are science parks and innovation centres, offering long-term residency to hi-tech companies.

Firms benefit from full managerial support and a strong link to a local university or college’s research centres. These parks are an invaluable incubation centre for both rapid-growth enterprises and innovative divisions of larger companies.

Universities and HE colleges may also offer clinical trials, product testing and access to fully equipped laboratories.

Consultancy services provide expert advice on all aspects of industry and commerce from biotechnology to digital media, and from marketing strategy to environmental impact.

At the other end of the scale, many campuses offer media production services, conference venues for hire, or access to sports facilities.

The Council for Industry and Higher Education (CIHE) was established in 1985 by business leaders and senior academics to help improve the dialogue and mutual understanding between business and academia and to raise general awareness of the key issues of shared concern.
